It is located <strong>very near Madrid<\/strong> and unfortunately it is not well-known. In order to get to Seg\u00f3briga from Madrid, you can <strong>go by car and drive to Cuenca<\/strong>. The trip will only take <strong>one hour<\/strong>. This incredible archaeological find preserves<strong> a whole city dating back to the Holy Roman Empire<\/strong>. There is nothing like it in the centre of Spain. The <strong>conservation of the ruins<\/strong> is excellent. This fact allows us to know how the inhabitants of the area lived in those days. Because of this, we suggest that you accompany us on this trip to the Holy Roman Empire seen through the ruins of Seg\u00f3briga.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/01-sego.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1049\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/01-sego.jpg\" alt=\"Seg\u00f3briga\" width=\"650\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/01-sego.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/01-sego-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>A CITY OF MERCHANTS AND SLAVES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Seg\u00f3briga<\/strong> started to be built in the <strong>year II BC<\/strong>, when Rome dominated a large part of the Iberian Peninsula. Its origin stems from <strong>a Celtiberian hill-fort<\/strong> which was occupied by the Romans and later razed to the ground in order to build<strong> this city<\/strong> which became one of the <strong>most important ones in Roman Spain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/02-sego.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1051\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/02-sego.jpg\" alt=\"Seg\u00f3briga\" width=\"650\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/02-sego.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/02-sego-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The closeness of <strong>gypsum mines<\/strong> attracted wealthy people who were looking for new opportunities in the business world. The so called <em><strong>lapis specularis<\/strong><\/em> was found in these mines and it was <strong>greatly valued<\/strong> for it was used as window panes. <em>Lapis specularis<\/em> was also ground and mixed with the sand of the Roman Circus, thus, enhancing its beauty. At that time these mines were considered the most important ones in all the Mediterranean area. <strong>Many slaves<\/strong>, who worked in the mines, lived in Seg\u00f3briga.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/03-sego.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1053\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/03-sego.jpg\" alt=\"Seg\u00f3briga\" width=\"650\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/03-sego.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/03-sego-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>A REAL ROMAN CITY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When the Romans built Seg\u00f3briga, they wanted it to be <strong>identical to the great cities of the Empire<\/strong>, so that its citizens could live as real Romans.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/04-sego.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1055\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/04-sego.jpg\" alt=\"Seg\u00f3briga\" width=\"650\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/04-sego.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/04-sego-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They constructed <strong>thermal baths, a forum, temples and places for performances<\/strong> such as <strong>an amphitheatre and a theatre<\/strong>. The <strong>thermal baths are preserved very well<\/strong> although they had to be restored. We can easily imagine the customs of the wealthy people of the city. Concerning <strong>the Roman Theatre<\/strong>, only the changing rooms and <strong>the toilets<\/strong> have been preserved as well as <strong>the stands<\/strong> for the audience.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/05-sego.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1057\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/05-sego.jpg\" alt=\"Seg\u00f3briga\" width=\"588\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/05-sego.jpg 588w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/05-sego-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 588px) 100vw, 588px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Regarding the <strong>amphitheatre<\/strong>, we can see that it is also in very good condition and we can feel what the atmosphere was like whenever a performance took place. Facing <strong>the Forum<\/strong>, we must point out the basilical <strong>Lecture Theatr<\/strong>e, which was part of a great building where the citizens worshipped and paid homage to the Emperor. Unfortunately, there is little left of the circus and the metropolis. However, there are <strong>some tombs<\/strong> which we can can visit.
