This was due not only to <strong>its roundabout<\/strong> but also to <strong>its railway station<\/strong>. At present, both places are always busy and crowded. Throughout the years, this area has undergone <strong>countless remodellings<\/strong> until it has become what it is nowadays. In the <strong>blog of Estate One<\/strong> we think it is worthwhile to take <strong>A Walk into the Past<\/strong> in order to see how this area has developed. Currently, it is <strong>a key site<\/strong> for everybody who comes to Madrid. However, there is also <strong>a roundabout<\/strong> and <strong>a street<\/strong> with the same name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/02-atocha1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2294\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/02-atocha1.jpg\" alt=\"Atocha\" width=\"650\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/02-atocha1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/02-atocha1-300x165.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\"><strong>Atocha Railway Station<\/strong> is one of the most important in Madrid. It was inaugurated <strong>in 1851<\/strong>, and it was just a simple building which was named <em><strong>Embarcadero de Atocha<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/03-atocha1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/03-atocha1.jpg\" alt=\"Atocha\" width=\"650\" height=\"331\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/03-atocha1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/03-atocha1-300x152.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\">The train ride had only one return journey which was Madrid-Aranjuez. Nevertheless, only <strong>the Royal family<\/strong> could use it. Some years later, <strong>the size of the station was extended<\/strong>, due to the fact that travelling by train became more and more popular. Important building work took place even though <strong>the 1864<\/strong> fire damaged much of its framework. Finally, <strong>in 1892<\/strong> it was finished and inaugurated with the name <em><strong>Estaci\u00f3n del Mediod\u00ed<\/strong><\/em><strong>a<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/04-atocha1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2298\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/04-atocha1.jpg\" alt=\"Atocha\" width=\"650\" height=\"396\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/04-atocha1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/04-atocha1-300x182.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\"><strong>A FAST GROWING RAILWAY STATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\">Madrid is a lively and dynamic <strong>city which grows day by day<\/strong>. Therefore, <em>Estaci\u00f3n del Mediod\u00eda<\/em> needed <strong>constant remodelling<\/strong> in order to <strong>adapt to new times<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/05-atocha1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/05-atocha1.jpg\" alt=\"Atocha\" width=\"650\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/05-atocha1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/05-atocha1-300x215.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\">As the years went by, it changed its name to <strong>Estaci\u00f3n de Atocha<\/strong>. At the beginning of the 1920\u00b4s the station was <strong>connected to the underground Line 1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/06-atocha1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2302\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/06-atocha1.jpg\" alt=\"Atocha\" width=\"650\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/06-atocha1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/06-atocha1-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\">In the 50\u00b4s <strong>it was electrified<\/strong> and in the 60\u00b4s a complicated <strong>traffic interchange (scalextric)<\/strong>, was built in Glorieta de Atocha with a length of more than one kilometre. This changed the physiognomy of the roundabout completely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/07-atocha1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2304\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/07-atocha1.jpg\" alt=\"Atocha\" width=\"650\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/07-atocha1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/07-atocha1-300x206.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Prrafobsico\"><strong>Suburban trains<\/strong> linked the city of Madrid to the outskirts. This led to the creation of <strong>Estaci\u00f3n de Cercan\u00edas<\/strong>. At the end of the 80\u00b4s the trains of the railway station <strong>connected with the new underground stations<\/strong>.
