Probably, more than one tourist who was taking a walk in Plaza de Espa\u00f1a, was awestruck when suddenly <strong>an Egyptian temple<\/strong> appeared right in front. This enormous contrast of architectural styles <strong>in the centre of a city<\/strong>, is very seldom seen. <strong>Templo de Debod<\/strong> is one of the most <strong>magical places in Madrid<\/strong>. Today, we dedicate our section <strong>Corners of Madrid<\/strong>, to Templo de Debod. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/el-capricho-park\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">We have already seen Parque del Capricho<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/01-debod2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2644\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/01-debod2.jpg\" alt=\"Templo de Debod\" width=\"650\" height=\"410\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/01-debod2.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/01-debod2-300x189.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>A BIT OF HISTORY<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In 1968, Egypt gave Spain, as a present, this beautiful temple which is regarded as <strong>a jewel<\/strong>. This generosity was due to the Spanish aid that helped to save the Nubia temples. The temple was placed very near Plaza de Espa\u00f1a and <strong>next to Paseo del Pintor Rosales<\/strong> and even the original orientation was conserved.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/02-debod2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2647\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/02-debod2.jpg\" alt=\"Templo de Debod\" width=\"650\" height=\"388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/02-debod2.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/02-debod2-300x179.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is estimated that this temple is <strong>more than 2.200 years old<\/strong>, and it had been built very near the River Nile in <strong>an Egyptian city called Debod<\/strong> ( in memory of Am\u00f3n of Debod and Isis ). It is very likely that <strong>a sanctuary existed where the temple was originally built<\/strong>. When the monument was oficially donated to Spain, it was <strong>moved by ship to Valencia<\/strong>. From there, <strong>90 lorries and more than 1.300 crates<\/strong> were needed to transport it to Madrid.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/03-debod2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2649\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/03-debod2.jpg\" alt=\"Templo de Debod\" width=\"650\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/03-debod2.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/03-debod2-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>ANCIENT EGYPT IN PLAZA DE ESPA\u00d1A<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It was <strong>not an easy task to set it up<\/strong>. The installation had to carried out in <strong>two stages<\/strong>: first of all, <strong>the original blocks and the two arcades<\/strong> as well as the layout of <strong>the gardens surrounding the temple<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/04-debod1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2651\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/04-debod1.jpg\" alt=\"Templo de Debod\" width=\"650\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/04-debod1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/04-debod1-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, some parts which were damaged or deteriorated were rebuilt. <strong>The terrace<\/strong> was also covered in order to protect it from the rain. All this work lasted for <strong>a year and a half<\/strong> and in the summer of 1972, it was completely finished. We think that it is <strong>one of the most unique places in Madrid<\/strong>, especially at sunset.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/05-debod1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2653\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/05-debod1.jpg\" alt=\"Templo de Debod\" width=\"650\" height=\"451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/05-debod1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/05-debod1-300x208.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>A REAL JIGSAW PUZZLE<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Did you know that when the temple was brought to Madrid, <strong>the different pieces were unnumbered<\/strong>?
