It cannot continue to be as it was until now. What will happen that year? According to a <strong>European Union agreement<\/strong>, <strong>every building constructed from 2020 onward, shall be obliged to have a close to zero energy consumption<\/strong>. The <strong>Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)<\/strong>, wants to <strong>minimize energy consumption in buildings<\/strong> so as to have <strong>more sustainable cities<\/strong> and hence, <strong>an improvement on the quality of life<\/strong>. In addition, <strong>new construction buildings must have their own renewable energy sources<\/strong>. If this were not possible, then the source must be close by. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/on-the-path-towards-sustainable-real-estate-system\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">In this blog, we wrote about<strong> the importance of housing which has a commitment to sustainability<\/strong><\/a>. We are all aware of the fact that t<strong>he resources of our planet are not everlasting<\/strong>. Some weeks ago, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/solar-panels-in-madrid\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">we talked about the possibility of installing solar panels on the rooftops of Madrid<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>We also explained <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/on-the-path-of-efficient-energy-consumption-at-home\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">how we can make a house more energy efficient<\/a>; <\/strong>we have written about this subject several times because <strong>we are fully conscious of the need to change the current real estate system<\/strong>. The European Union demands it and <strong>it will be implemented from the year 2020 onward<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30010\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/01-vivienda-1.jpg\" alt=\"Housing in the future\" width=\"650\" height=\"536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/01-vivienda-1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/01-vivienda-1-300x247.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/01-vivienda-1-606x500.jpg 606w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>TWICE THE AMOUNT OF SAVING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The buildings with a close to <strong>zero energy consumption<\/strong> will save power and <strong>the families living there will enjoy major economic savings<\/strong>. If the building materials are of<strong> excellent quality and therefore insulate well<\/strong>, then there is hardly any loss of heat or cold and thus,<strong> there is a significant reduction in the cost of heating and air conditioning<\/strong>. It is estimated that <strong>new buildings will save energy between 60% and 80% with regard to conventional ones<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/buildings-can-clean-air-fight-pollution\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">Some time ago, in this blog we wrote about <strong>buildings that reduce pollution<\/strong><\/a>; the European Union encourages these initiatives and the regulation <strong>will be implemented in 2020<\/strong>. Which will be the exact date? It will take effect <strong>on 31 December 2020<\/strong>, and each different <strong>European government will be responsible to make sure that the regulation is carried out<\/strong>. Every building constructed prior to this date, must be insofar as possible, adapted to this regulation through restoration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30011\" src=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/02-vivienda-1.jpg\" alt=\"housing in the future\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/02-vivienda-1.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/02-vivienda-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.estateone.biz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/02-vivienda-1-175x131.jpg 175w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>SOME FEATURES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Some of the features that close to zero energy consumption buildings must have are: firstly, <strong>good thermal and acoustic insulation<\/strong> as well as low conductivity and resilience to fires.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Secondly, <strong>effective sealing<\/strong> which will prevent external air from entering and the heat inside from disappearing. Thirdly, <strong>to get the maximum use of the sun<\/strong> as a source of energy. This means that the buildings must have <strong>a bioclimatic design<\/strong> in order to favour solar energy through the correct orientation as well as having adequate windows and photovoltaic panels. The buildings must also have <strong>temperature regulators<\/strong> <strong>such as intelligent thermostats<\/strong> which will enable us to save up to 40% of the invoice. Lastly, <strong>the use of organic material<\/strong>. This is achieved by making use of organic waste such as olive stones to produce energy for boilers and biomass stoves.
