Going for a walk in Quinta de los Molinos (Small Estate of the Mills)

Quinta de los Molinos is one of the historic parks in Madrid. It has a wide variety of trees and the landscape gardening is Mediterranean style. Furthermore, the architecture of the buildings is outstanding. In order to reach Quinta de los Molinos, you must go along Calle Alcalá until you arrive at Barrio del Salvador which is nearby. In this blog we have recently talked about Jardin de la Fuente del Berro. Today, we dedicate this space to another Corner in Madrid, which is Quinta de los Molinos.

A GARDEN FULL OF VEGETATION… AND ALMOND TREES IN BLOOM

Quinta de los Molinos has five different gates. It is located in the east part of Madrid. This splendid park has 25 hectares and it has a wide range of trees such as olive trees and pine trees as well as eucalyptus and cypress trees, but above all, almond trees.

When winter ends, what attracts the most are the almond trees in bloom, which are a spectacular sight. The best time of the year to enjoy this beauty is in February and March. In the 1920´s the architect César Cort built Quinta de los Molinos.

When he died, the park fell into disuse and was forgotten. At the beginning of the 80´s, the town hall of Madrid restored it and opened it to the public.

COUNTRYSIDE INSIDE MADRID

Apart from the trees and the vegetation, we must also mention the small palace built at the beginning of the XX century, as well as several ponds, Casa del Reloj and the mill which gave rise to the name Quinta de los Molinos.

A large area of the small estate is agricultural. We must insist on the extravagance of strolling along it and seeing the creepers and the mimosa plants. It is full of exciting winding paths and we can feel the peace and quiet which allows us to have a rest away from the bustling city.
