Interior decoration helps to prepare a home for the chances of a better quality of life for those who live there. You can follow these 4 tips in order to improve your home. Sometimes, so as to obtain good results regarding interior decoration, it is very important to observe and respect the norms that most interior decorators follow. Today, we are going to take a look at 4 of these norms. If we follow them, we will enhance the space and make everything look much better.
Tip 1. The right amount of everything. This is a very basic norm which is applied to every aspect of everyday life and indeed it is a fundamental matter in interior decoration. Balance is a key issue to allow a space to breathe and this is why we must look for harmony in every room of the house. This implies that we must always avoid cramming the rooms and filling them with stridency. If we place in a room an object of considerable weight (for instance, a work of art), then we should compensate it with a clear and open area so as not to clutter the space. The same thing happens with furniture: for example, an outstanding piece of furniture such as a bookcase or a sofa should be surrounded by an open space so that the object can be enhanced as well as giving a feeling of spaciousness.

We should also show off a beautiful parquet flooring and thus, making it no sense to cover it with carpets as it alone gives us warmth and cosiness.

In another example, if we have a fireplace that provides a room with personality, then we should enhance it by avoiding to surround it with other elements that can take away its importance.

Tip 2. Always think that it is your home. It may seem obvious, but it is not. Very often, when we decorate a room we might be carried away by the passion of the moment and may, therefore, lose the perspective of what that space really needs. One of the aims of a good interior decorator is to make the most of the space needed to be decorated and hence enhance it. This is why whenever we want to decorate a room we should ask ourselves if the elements we want to place there will help to highlight the space or, on the contrary, make it become gloomy. Let us imagine a living room with an impressive view; all our efforts should be aimed at enhancing this view and to highlight it in order to make the living room even more beautiful (we will therefore avoid placing any elements which may obstruct its beauty in front of the window).

If we have a room with a designer overhead lamp of which we are especially proud of, the we must find the way to make it stand out: it is a good idea to leave the rest of the ceiling bare so that the lamp can shine alone in all its splendour. This is why we always think about which is the most important thing in our house and what we want to highlight the most. It is then that we can have a very valuable clue as to how to decorate each room and which elements can help us or not.

Tip 3. Have a dialogue with the space. It is very important that when we decorate a room we interact with the space and we respect it. It is about doing what we think is neded to improve it but never stop thinking about all the rest. If we place elements in a room that take up a lot of space then we will have failed because we have added instead of taking away: we must establish a dialogue between what we plan and the space that is available so that everything becomes integrated. For instance, in a room with a spiral staircase, we can highlight it and boost the space making it become harmoniously integrated. We could, for example, paint it in an intense colour but then, we should compensate it with a neutral colour in the rest of the room. It is also important to free the space of other elements that may interfere. In this way the space continues to play a leading role whilst enhancing the spiral staircase.

Tip 4. White, a favourite colour. Some time ago, we wrote an article in this blog about how to decorate with white. White transmits light as well as spaciousness and, above all, atemporality as this colour never goes out of fashion. A room with white breathes space, much more than one with an intense colour and it also gives us a feeling of cleanness and freedom which cannot be found in any other colour.

This is why we recommend you to take the colour white into account when it comes to decorating your home as this colour will always be your ally.
