Can you imagine what it would be like if the buildings in Madrid could generate a system capable of fighting pollution on their own? This may sound like science fiction, however, we can state that this is not far from becoming reality. Recently, some materials that can be blended with concrete, have been discovered. If this is used on the façade, it will reduce polluting substance and decrease urban pollution in Madrid, especially those days when it does not rain. The Madrid town hall, has shown great interest in this leading-edge technology which is being developed by a cement manufacturing company.
THE DEPOLLUTING SYSTEM
The ecological certificate, the Leed certification and aero-therm, have already been mentioned in this blog. We highlight the importance of becoming aware that housing must respect our environment. Today, we will add a new factor which is a depolluting system that reduces traffic pollution up to 60%. This new technology neutralizes traffic exhaust fumes as they become trapped in the concrete which is able to absorb them.
MORE POLLUTION LEADS TO HIGHER PERFORMANCE
LafargeHolcim, the cement manufacturing company which has created the depolluting system, has signed an agreement with the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid in order to measure the impact of this new technology. It has been tested in the parking lot of the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid and also in a street in Colmenar Viejo. The results were satisfactory. The more pollution there is, the better the system works.
This system may not only be used in buildings, but also in tunnels and parking lots. It has the advantage that sunlight is not needed in order to make it work, as happened in the past. Another advantage is that it has no expiry date. If the depolluting system prospers, it can mean having an excellent solution, in the long term, concerning pollution in large cities.
