Slow deco is an upward trend in decoration that suggests decorating the house in such a way that one can get away from the day to day stress and burden. Actually, we could say that slow deco is not only a way of decorating but also an attitude or philosophy towards life. It is about living quietly and fleeing from concerns. There is nothing better than decorating our home in such a manner that it will make us feel as relaxed and peaceful as possible. Very often, especially in large cities, we lead a hectic life which does not give us a break as we are always running here and there as well as enduring the strain of modern life. Slow deco aims to reduce this stress when arriving home: it would be like creating our small oasis and haven at home. We would do this constructing a bubble, through decoration, which could cut us off from the outside hectic life. But how can we convey peace and calm at home with decoration? Today, we will write about this in our section Take good note of this and decorate. Last week, we talked about the art of lighting up a house.
ABOVE ALL, KEEP CALM
This is what slow deco seeks: to convey peace and quiet at home. To achieve this, it opts for simplicity and the avoidance of a house packed and cluttered with objects which leave no space whatsoever. It is about having open spaces which will enable us to enjoy freedom of movement. A good way to do this is by connecting one room to another so that we may have the feeling of space and freedom. An excellent example could be to have a kitchen open to the living room: slow deco calls for bonding family ties in order to strengthen relationships. This is why it is important for spaces to communicate instead of being closed apart.
In addition, each space will have the personal touch of the owner regarding its decoration. However, a feeling of calmness and peacefulness should prevail. This is why stridencies should be avoided so that the owners can fully enjoy comfort, well-being and rest. The bedroom is a specially sensitive space and thus the decoration must contribute, as much as possible, to rest. Therefore, it is important it conveys a sense of order, neatness and tidiness. We should also take into account the avoidance of electrical appliances there. Slow deco is always in favour of creating harmonious spaces: order is fundamental, especially in the bedroom. In this sense, we could state that slow deco is very much related to Feng Shui, about which we wrote in this blog.
NATURE AND LIGHT, ACCESSORIES TO SLOW DECO
Nature helps us feel in harmony with the world and this is why slow deco suggests it should be a part of our home. Plants will liven up our home, and they will contribute to giving the feeling of relaxation we are looking for and which should surround us. If, apart from having plants, we have a small terrace garden then the advantage will be even greater, as we can enjoy it, when the weather allows it, to have breakfast or lunch. On the other hand, we have already written about the importance of light in a house, and slow deco is very much aware of this. Light does not only enhance an area but it also makes it brighter and loads it with energy. For all these reasons, if we want to carry out slow deco, we must let in natural light in all our home.
