Working at home is an option which can be agreeable and beneficial for the worker, but, the workplace must be prepared beforehand. It is undeniable that the Covid-19 health crisis has brought about a new reality, making us have to adapt to these new uncertain times in all the spheres of our lives. Teleworking has become the most widely used option by most companies so as to avoid paralyzing economic activity. The capacity to reinvent ourselves has been fundamental in order to carry on, and very often, our homes have had to become our workplace. We find a very significant example of this on television programmes which show us, daily, how the homes of some television presenters have been turned into an improvised television studio from which the programme is broadcast. Regarding ourselves, are we ready to work at home? What must we take into account in order to prepare a working space at home? TRANQUILITY, ORDER AND GOOD LIGHTING

Our first three pieces of advice in order to create a workplace at home is to find a peaceful area which is well-lit and that has an atmosphere of order. These are three fundamental circumstances in order to be able to work well, and that is why we must do everything possible to achieve them. The room or the space we choose to work in, must be noise-free (all the better if it is soundproof), in such a way that it will favour the levels of concentration so that we can just focus on work.

The place must be well-lit: it would be fantastic if it had a window close by, because natural light makes any activity much more pleasant as well as allowing ventilation, which is a very important issue in any working atmosphere. If there is no sunlight, a good solution is a white light table lamp. Certainly, order is an essential aspect as it is impossible to concentrate and to perform well at work in an untidy and messy environment. We must be meticulous and arrange well the space we have chosen to work in, because the first step to get involved at work, is to feel we are in a tidy atmosphere. This is why our worktable must be especially tidy, and if we can include a plant on it, the feeling, as regards work, will be even more pleasant and stimulating.

GOOD FURNITURE AND SOME ADVICE

In order to be able to work well, we must have at our disposal a good table and, above all, a good chair. If we do not have a comfortable ergonomic work chair, which we can regulate to our liking, then maybe this is the perfect time to buy it (over the Internet we can buy excellent work chairs without moving from home). We all take for granted that at home there is a computer as well as Internet connection, as nowadays they are not lacking in any house. If this is the first time that you work from home, then please take these tips seriously: a) plan your work daily so that you have a clear idea of your job tasks (a good method to start the day is having a list of your pending work); b) avoid distractions (especially the telephone, television, Internet and social networking pages), as well as establishing working routines which will allow you do your job properly; c) take some time off, but with moderation and responsibility; d) if you are a freelance, you can choose your own working hours which must be the ones when you are at your best; e) we have already said that our worktable must always be tidy: if we get into the habit of tidying it at the end of our working day, this will always help us have it in order.
