Books have a multitude of functions: they not only make us more cultured and educated, but they also liberate us and make us happier. On top of all this, they decorate our home. In a house, there are some irreplaceable details which create a homely atmosphere, such as a good coffee table, an adequate carpet and a selected collection of designer furniture, as well as plants that purify spaces. Apart from these important details, we must, of course, have a good bookcase. According to the Italian writer, Edmondo de Amicis, “a house without books is a house without dignity”. In Estate One, we agree with this statement.
Books not only reveal our concerns and interests hence, showing what we are really like, but they also contribute to giving our home a human touch which cannot be achieved in any other way. What can be sadder than a house without books? Thanks to books, we can convey a cosy feeling. If we think about decorating a room, books are extremely faithful companions.
A good bookcase provides colour and warmth to a home and so we must show it off. On the other hand, if we have not got a large book collection then we must make the most of what we have and choose a suitable place so as to make the books stand out. For instance, placing them on an isolated shelf on the wall.
LET´S BE IMAGINATIVE
Books stimulate our imagination. Therefore, why not be imaginative when we use them for decorating? Why not hang an original and unconventional shelf on the wall which will then make the space unique? For instance, how about a house-shaped shelf so that the books can rest in a fairytale place?
On the contrary, ancient books add an air of distinction and a touch of class. We believe that these books fit better on a vintage piece of furniture which will create a space full of personality.
However, books should not always be connected to the dictatorship of furniture: if we do not pay attention to this, we can achieve surprising results. For example, a small set of books can be put on a strategic place and this will break the monotony and give the space a different aspect.
BOOKS IN THE CHILDREN´S ROOM
Books can be suggestive due to their different sizes, formats and colours. When decorating you must know how to place them so that they stand out in each corner of the house. We believe that books are especially important in a children´s room. Children will then become surrounded by books from an early age.
We can help children connect playing with reading if we use our imagination. Toys can combine very well with books if we make them interact. For instance, if a book has pictures of dolls or toys, then the child may feel encouraged to read it. Maybe, we can even place a toy on top of an open book somewhere in the room. Why not mess up the room a little so that the child feels that books contribute to the originality of the space?
