The fifth tower block which will be located in Barrio de la Paz, will be called Torre Caleido and it will be finished on 2019. Some weeks ago, we wrote about Azca and its renovation to become updated and we mentioned the important changes it will undergo in 2017. The northern part of Madrid will change even more when Torre Caleido is built in the old Ciudad Deportiva where at present, the Cuatro Torres Business Area is located.

The city skyline will change once this fifth tower is built. Torre Caleido will house a university campus which will be the first to be set in a skyscraper.The Madrid City Council has already submitted the architectural design, and it is very proud of being able to participate in this important educational project.

THE FACTS AND FIGURES OF THE OPERATION

Torre Caleido will be built in 259, Paseo de la Castellana. It will have 36 floors and a built surface of 50.000 square meters with a capacity of 6.000 students. Even though it will be 181 meters high, it will be the lowest of the five skyscrapers which will make up the complex.

The cost of this investment plus conditioning the area, will be more than 300 million euros. The aim of this project is to boost Operación Madrid Puerta Norte. Although the greatest part of this building will be destined to education, it will also have a modern sports health center. Torre Caleido is the first vertical university campus in Madrid and hence, a pioneering project in the city which has never before had a campus located in a skyscraper.

A SUSTAINABLE PROJECT

In this blog we have already written about buildings with the LEED Certification. Torre Caleido also aims to have this certificate as sustainability and energy efficiency were taken into account from the very beginning. In total, 30.000 square meters will be destined for green spaces and gardens. Moreover, a parking place for non-polluting vehicles will be built. Furthermore, the climate control and the lighting will be in accordance with the LEED Certification. The Madrid City Council has stated that it will double public transport in this area, and that it will also increase the range of leisure facilities as well as the number of restaurants in order to attract more visitors. All of this leads to an ambitious project which will undoubtedly change and modernize the northern part of Madrid.
